My Hoyt boom has got jammed over the winter. I guess it needs its bearing lubricating. But how to remove the boom from the bearing mounting to get at the bearing.
I asked Forespar, who sold it to me, but the guy on the phone didn't know.
Has anyone experience or advice?

Hi, I have a Hoyt boom and have removed it on at least one occasion. The bearings on mine are nylon, you could take the boom out, it’s held in by a couple of collars and a stainless pin then give them a wash with warm water followed by a squirt of dry lubricant. There is not a lot to jam.

Thanks. My boom looks like it is held in by a giant circlip but access to it is limited.
Where is the the SS pin on yours?

Access is from inside the anchor locker, the pin is midway between deck head and foot of the Hoyt. I am due to visit my boat today so I will take an image for you and or a picture of the relevant page of the manual.

I took the Hoyt boom from our Island Packet SP Cruiser two years ago and has it re powdercoated.

Also, one holding down bolt on the bearing housing was stripped. I made an extended drill bit and 10MM tap and re-threaded the stripped imperial thread.

One of the nylon bushings could not be pulled off of the bottom bearing surface of the boom due to the dreaded white powder corrosion. I split it with a chisel. That one went on the bottom when replaced, opposite to where it was. I found a heavy truck two diameter rubber boot meant for a turbo to inlet manifold that I fitted as a weather cover. From ebay.

Access was not possible underneath as it was fixed to the bowsprit.

All works fine now. The spiralox circlip was soaked for a couple of weeks with the acetone/ATF mix beloved of those on this forum. Came out easy.

All fine now.

If you click on and enlarge the attatched pic, the two diameter boot used to keep the rain out can be seen.

Hi here is an image of my Hoyt boom set up between decks, glad I had a look as I have evidence of water ingress, I’ll take the nylon rings off, clean and apply some sealant.
Does your boom finish at deck level ?

No, mine is all above deck, just six bolts though the deck holding it down. Yours looks very different.
