How's your Nasa Navtex aerial?

Re: How\'s your Nasa Navtex aerial?

Want a spare mounting flange thingy? I happen to have one surplus to requirements. Ordered it to replace mine which broke, but then discovered that the aerial had become a goldfish bowl and had to replace the whole gubbins.

Yours for a couple of quid in the lifeboat box next time you're passing.

Re: How\'s your Nasa Navtex aerial?

I did that too since laid flat under the sidedeck lining worked on our previous boat. Unfortunately it doesn't work well at all on our latest, it doesn't like being plugged in, doesn't like the engine running, being in harbour or anything really, just works when it thinks it will. One day I will get around to moving the aerials but I can still remember how hard it was getting that **** panel back in place when I did it last time...

Re: How\'s your Nasa Navtex aerial?

Many thanks for the offer Ken, and nice to see you back on the Forum. However probably best to donate your bracket to another needy owner as I'm sending the whole lot back to Nasa so they can repair the damage caused by water ingress and they will include a new bracket.
Thanks again,

Mick

As long as you are a non-metal hulled / decked boat ...

you can mount the antennae literally anywhere internally .... I suggest away from large metallic objects though such as engine. Its not absolutely necessary to be next to a window .... take mine for example .... I would guess that 20% of the antennae incl. base is below waterline, top section is about 10cms forward of the window and passes up into the toe-rail.

Like everyone else - I considered mounting on stern rail / mast etc. etc. - then read the instructions and thought - OK they know best and gave it a try -= its stayed there ever since !!!!
