Which is full and which is empty?

The French for "full" and "empty" are "plein" and "vide" respectively so "P" is full and "V" is empty. I am not sure where "PF" comes from.

Don't know as we usually just fill up and don't bother to look- you have to move too much to get at them.

However I am on a swinging mooring with little access to water. Leaving tomorrow and want to know how desparate (or otherwise) it is to get to somewhere where I can fill up.

Perhaps it means fu... err ... very full

It may actually be faire, to make. I know one says fait la plein to get a full tank of gas.
