How to tell what year a Mariner 2.5 is

I bought one off a forumite, a good deal, I have refurbed it with new main bearings, gear box bearings and seals. It runs a treat now. It has points ignition. Does any one know how to tell what year it is. The only info on the peeling engine label is Marine Power Europe a division of Brunswick USA. Belgium and a serial number 0968354

If 09683 is correct for the first part of the number I make it 1992
