how to strip Lewmar 55 winches

can anybody out there give me some idea as to how to remove the drum of a 6 bolt (not the more modern 4 )Lewmar 55 self tailing two speed winch. Does the drum pull off the main shaft/body after the 6 bolts are removed and is the fact that it is rigid at the moment only a matter of corrosion or is there some secret formula (ie a hammer and pullers ) that suddenly releases our problem. There was a good article in PBO 403 - p98 (July 2000) about dismantling and servicing an Anderson self-tailing winch. I think it was the 6 bolt type though.

Lewmar had free leaflets on servicing winches. A phone call would probably win one, or maybe they are downloadable from a website (http://www.lewmar.com/support/default.htm)
