How to stow anchor warp/chain ?

I have 10 m of chain spliced to 40 m of anchor warp.
How do you get the warp to feed down the hawse pipe into bow locker, without a crew to pull it through ? It works well enough for the chain.
Also - what do you use to "parcel" the warp where it feeds over the bow roller to reduce chafe ? I know that I should do it, but am not accustomed to using warp instead of chain. (High tides in Bristol channel require a lot of scope.)

Difficult to get warp to self-stow in a shallow locker. You'll probably have to get someone to flake it for you.

One way of avoiding chafe over the roller is to shackle a short length of nylon to a strong point, ideally on the outboard side of the roller, and attach it either to the chain with a hook or the warp with a rolling hitch. It provides some elasticity when using chain and takes the load off the windlass. We do it all the time in our cat as we have to lie to a bridle. It's a little less convenient than just lying to the anchor cable but solves several problems.

I assume your exisiting warp is 3-strand nylon or similar. This is almost impossible to self-stow, and you might want to consider changing it to Octoplait (or multiplait) anchor warp. This will slide happily through a naval pipe and substantially self-stow, given a reasonable depth of anchor locker. You can also splice it directly to the chain.

Perhaps not a solution you'll want to persue right now, but perhaps when it's time to change the warp?

If you have a pipe that attaches to the hawse pipe leadinding down into a locker as I do then the warp will never fall down like a chain. I have decided to replace the the gear totally with chain. I have a manual windlass and I have just bought calibrated chain to fit.Now as I sail single handed I dont have to flake the gear on deck and gently coach the warp down from inside the boat.

Have a look at my post under "Calling Snowleopard and everyone else that owns a cat" for a method of fitting an eyebolt to the bow. The post is about bridles for catamamrans, but you could attach a single nylon strop to the stem this way and hold the anchor warp with a rolling hitch.

Keep the slack warp over the roller and secured as usual, just in case.

As to stowing, flake on deck then go below and stow in locker. Sorry only way. Fortunatly I have a large anchor locker that opens to the deck and stow warp in plastic boxes but it has to be flaked down by hand.
