I have 2 lights within the boom that shine down into the cockpit. It strikes me that it would be good to be able to have the lights turn on with motion. This would have two advantages. When I return to the boat and am trying to unlock it, I would be able to see, but more importantly any unwanted visitor would be illuminated and then might be deterred.

The boom lights are 12volt. Is there a way of mounting a motion detector that communicates wirelessly with a controller for the lights. Of course if I could replace one of the bulbs (which are standard M16) with the detector, that would be very neat.

Thanks

Easy. Get a PIR and rig it on the washboard inside with a 'window' into the cockpit. Get a simple remote control kit and wire the PIR contact to the transmit button. Connect the receiver contacts to the cockpit light circuit.
