You know me, a bit of a flash twit, always catalogue hunting and buying stuff cus its shiney and has fiddle with bits but hey ho.....maybe I've seen the light /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Needed a way of mounting my new radome onto the radar arch, normally you can sort of plonk em on the top but with the GPS antenna already up there the scanner has to be higher than the receiver. So okey dokey you can buy them loverley stainless 5" hoy'k it up type things but prices came back like £230 incl vat and delivery.

So bish, bash, bosh there ya go, knocked up in an afternoon and £30 of stainless and a few hours labour. Even got a little hook and cleat on the mast light sticky up thing for the red duster.

Not too bad if I say so meself.

And doesn't look out of place on boat either, was afraid it was going to spoil the lovely lines of sweepy radar shape.

er, em well actually I was director of operations, Dean our super duper spanner man did the actual metal bashing, flippin heck, ya don't think I'd get me hands dirty as well as save some money /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Next job is fitting one of these for cockpit heating, went for the 10 kw jobbie with four outlets, will run off the port engine as the boiler is off the starboard. Cost incl parts and hoses etc about £300 then a day for Dean to do his stuff. Planning to make up out of 3/4" stainless tube a screen demister that runs the width of the base of the screen with slots drilled out and hooked up to the fourth outlet. Will be quite tricky to make it look nice and not some boggit job so will form it up to same radius and curve of the screen and give it a mirror finish polish.

Eber and Webasto kit came in at nearly £3000 but this is 10% of the price and runs for free off the engine /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Cor.... I am getting good at the money saving lark /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh indeedy yes it does, umpteen thousands of BTU thingy's of reverse cycle aircon unit, problem is running it at full chat while bouncing along at thirty knots does'nt do it any good and we are never down below while scooting accross to Liverpool or where ever its just the cockpit we need a bit of warmth.

well she does skoot along fairly nicely /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, last blast... douglas to liverpool marina 2hrs 40 mins, half a days shopping and back in time for tea.........all very civilized this mobo lark!

It looks like an excellent piece of work! Congrats to you for the design and to the "real worker"! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks, about 30 knts at touch over 3000rpm from douglas lighthouse to enterance to lock gate twas flat calm of course and a bit naughty cus we cut inside the channel /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
about 3hrs 20 mins and the way back which I blame on the extra amount of ballast cus of swbmo's amount of shopping on board /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nice job. I know that stainless steel welding is a skilled task. Its missing one thing though. You need a crosstree so that you can hoist 2 burgees not just 1. A courtesy flag and the forum burgee, of course /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Dang!, knew there was a fault in the paln somewhere /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Bit most chuffed with is no nasty bolts or screws on show, threaded stainless bar welded to underside and drop down through existing holes were original light mast was so didn't even have to drill any holes.

Your right, I had a go and flip me looked a total snotty mess. He's the man though, very lucky to have him, here is a ballast weight he made for a 45 to counter act no passerelle cus chappie didn't want one. very polished affair, stainless top plate and then bolt as many or as few lead panels underneath as you need.
