Hi,

Sometime in the past somebody has either put a cigarette out or poured some chemical or other down the heads fibreglass sink. Its left a roughened mark about 2x2 inches. Anybody know the best way to deal with it?

I was going to rub it down as best I could, mask off the bottom of the sink and then paint it, but with which paint type? Brush or roller?

Its not just a case of removing the mark, the surface itself is roughened and damaged.

Thanks In advance.

3 options

You could do a local repair with some flowcoat.

Or.

You re coat the item, clean with Acetone then sand with a 200 grit, apply closed cell micro balloons or 'Q' cells to fill any marks or low areas.

Apply a layer of flowcoat (resin mixed with pigment).

Or.

Remove the sink and take it to a local boat builder/repairer and get them to give you an estimate to re coat it as above.

Hope this helps.

Avagoodweekend......;)

Recoat your plastic sink

An alternative you might like to try is to paint it with a Urethane 2 pack paint.
You would need to smooth the surface with polyester resin with filler or putty first.
Flow coat is a polyester resin. You could use an epoxy with pigment. (no UV inside) but i think the urethane paint will give a better gloss finish. It is usually intended for spraying but I found brushing gave a decent finish (the entire boat) without the dangers of spraying.
Of course you could try a spray pack of car type enamel paint.
The urethane is going to cost a bit for a touch up I paid about 50squid for 1 litre including the thinner and hardener but it goes a long way and if you have a white hull or deck it can be good for touch up. Or repaint if the gell coat is really bad.
That is what I did. I am not sure it was a good idea but committed now and it is easy to retouch. But always looks touched up. All of the above resins can be tinted with standard pigment. AFAIK olewill
