HOW TO REGISTER FOR THE BCYA WELSH RALLY

11th 12th 13th JULY 2014

AT MERMAID QUAY

CARDIFF BAY

Registration just couldn't be simpler :-kerrydouglas9@hotmail.com or 07745121498...

Simply call, text or e-mail Kerry Douglas with the following information. Please do it sooner rather than later to assist the organisation. The final date for entry is the 4th July

Boat Name
Owners Name
Anticipated crew numbers including yourself
Will you be taking advantage of the £22.00 discounted pontoon rate by Cardiff Bay Authority? This rate applies for the whole weekend regardless of boat size. (Payment on arrival)
Will you be arranging your own pontoon fee via the on-site machine?
ABOUT YOUR BERTH
The Mermaid Quay pontoons are located just a stone’s throw from the acclaimed International Food and Wine Festival, where all sorts of wonderful delights are available. Entry to this is of course free and you and your crew can come and go as you like. Also just stone’s throws from your boat are some wonderful restaurants and bars. If you have yet to take a tour of the amazing new Welsh Parliament Building well you guessed it...It too is only a stone’s throw from your berth and entry is free. All in all everything is in place to make this event one of the most memorable of 2014.

VERY MUCH ENCOURAGED

Music on boats and on the pontoons.

Meeting old sailing friends.

Clubs making this a destination for cruises in company.

Lots & Lots of fun for everyone.

Lots of Flags on your boats.

COMPETITION

On Saturday the judges will be walking the pontoons to decide on the best dressed boat overall and a prize will be awarded to the winner at the “Free” drinks reception at 1800 hrs, before crews head off to enjoy your evening.

Tony, it sounds as though it is an event for visiting yachts to tie up at Mermaid Quay, dress overall, and spend a few days hobnobbing at dockside. We'd be interested especially as we have new crew that weekend but we are berthed in Penarth Marina so no real need to spend the whole weekend rafted (?) at Mermaid Quay. Are there any actual on-water things planned for the weeekend, a cruise around the Holms or a run around the cans? Makes it a bit more enticing for local yachts from the bay.

Cheers

I believe this is a social event aimed at encouraging people from all over the channel to get together and meet friends, old and new. As it coincides with the food festival it adds to the event along with the chance to visit Wales' capital city.
It's a shame you didn't have your new crew for the CYC racing in the channel last week.

I have forwarded you idea... the reply in a nutshell... This is a Rally for those Clubs Affiliated to us, to cruise and savour the local shore activities which are different to what they are accustomed to... It's not designed to cater for local sailor's other than socialising... I hope this helps, best regards Tony

Allan, we might be interested in a bit of friendly racing, but the link you put up the other day was restricted to CYC members. Can I PM you and maybe get on a mailing list or similar? We would be complete beginners though. For info, we are new members of PYC, which has a relatively small cruiser section, so just feeling our way into the cruiser scene and racing in the bay.

Cheers

If anything said it was restricted, I'm sorry, it would have been a mistake. As sailing secretary I insist all our races are open to everyone. As far as I know all the clubs affiliated to the BCYA have the same policy.
A date for your calendar is September 27th. That is our "Race for the fifty mile trophy". It is a flagrant rip-off of the PCC Holm's race with my stamp on it! I set the course, I add some extra rules and I won the last one!
If you have a look at the BCYA website, link below, you should find other events too.

Allan, that sounds like something we would really enjoy and it is enough lead time to get a crew properly organized (for a family cruiser). I will check the schedule though as I am out of the UK 50% of the time. If it works we will definitely throw our hat in the ring and look forward to it.

Cheers

I checked the forum and can see the problem but I'm too drunk to explain it now! Please join the forum to sort it. Look forward to seeing you in September.

The real laws of probability...

1. Law of Mechanical Repair - After your hands become coated with grease or grime, your nose will begin to itch and you'll have to pee.

2. Law of Gravity - Any tool, nut, bolt, screw, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible corner.

3. Law of Probability - The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act.

4. Law of Random Numbers - If you dial a wrong number, you never get an engaged tone and someone always answers.

5. Supermarket Law - As soon as you get in the shortest queue, the cashier will have to call for help.

6. Variation Law - If you change queues (or traffic lanes), the one you were in will always move faster than the one you are in now.

7. Law of the Bath - Only when the body is fully immersed in water does the telephone ring.

8. Law of Close Encounters - The probability of meeting someone you know increases dramatically when you are with someone you don't want to be seen with.

9. Law of the Result - When you try to prove to someone that a machine won't work, it will.

10. Law of Biomechanics - The severity of the itch is inversely proportional to the reach.

11. Law of the Theatre & Sports Ground - At any event, the people whose seats are furthest from the aisle, always arrive last. They are the ones who will leave
their seats several times to go for food, beer or the toilet and who leave early before the end of the performance or the game is over. Those in the aisle seats
come early, never move once, have long gangly legs or big bellies and stay to the bitter end. The aisle people also are very surly folk.

14. Law of Physical Surfaces - The chances of an open-faced jam sandwich landing face down on a floor, are directly correlated to the newness and cost of the
carpet or rug.

15. Law of Logical Argument - Anything is possible if you don’t know what you are talking about.

18. Law of Commercial Marketing Strategy -As soon as you find a product that you really like, they will stop making it.

19. Doctors’ Law - If you don't feel well, make an appointment to go to the doctor, by the time you get there you'll feel better. Don’t make an appointment and
you'll stay sick. This has been proven over and over with taking children to the pediatrician.

Even if the weather is not perfect, from previous experience, it will still be a good weekend. See you all there.
