How to protect interior varnish in winter

Does anyone do anything special to protect interior woodwork / varnished wood in winter to protect it from damp and mould as in what do you use to wash down and leave protective coating
 
It has never occurred to me to cover the varnish. One is supposed to wipe down all interior surfaces to remove salt traces but I'm afraid we don't bother. A dehumidifier looks after the damp problem for me.

no
oil filled heater with a plug-in thermostat set @ 5c & a dehumidifier on a timer set for late morning early afternoon.
previously when we hauled & laid-up every year all gear removed,a hard back fitted with a full cover / tarp & all hatches open & wash bds removed ( taken home for varnishing)
