Hi all ,

I have a princess38 with Volvo Tamd60B engines and flybridge tachos are both gone.. I want to fit aftermarket ones, but how do I know which ones can be used and how do I install them? Any help appreciated

Thank you

Pretty well all tachometers run off a feed from the alternators; OE volvo tends to be VDO, easiest option would be like for like. Don't buy them from Volvo though unless you like being ripped off.

OPs tachos work from a sensor, not the alternator.

Else conversion to NMEA would enable navigational MFD's to display the data
I have a pair of Ford Sabres that use a magnetic pulse generator to send a signal for RPM. I used an Albacombi unit to convert this to nmea2000 so RPM and other engine/tank quantity data now available on MFDs at both helms, if you have MFD's it's an easy way to go.

I have wema tacho's replacing my VP ones as one tacho failed and I could get a matching pair much cheaper than one VP tacho which would then have different hours counter from original.
They work fine, mine are alternator fed but I'm sure they were ok for magnetic sensors as well as they give a similar pulse.

Edit to add: The wema tachos were slightly smaller than the VP's by about 2mm but I just put an o ring around the outside to keep them centred in the facia panel.
