How to keep mussels and other crustaceans off your hull in a marina?

My emergency boarding ladder line which sits in the water was covered in mussels and looked like the tail of a Stegosaurus by the time I hade departed Tunisia after 90 days. So if I were to dangle two dozen lines all around the boat would that be enough to stop the crustaceans attaching themselves to my hull?

They won't live there preferentially, so no; I suspect the dangling rope would just act as a nursery and make things worse.

As for keeping it off, try a putty knife, keep the ladder out of the water or antifoul it.
