Hi All,

Can anyone offer advice on how to habg a tender on Davits, I have tried all of the obvious permiatations but it ends up looking like a dogs breakfast (much to the ammusment of the other berth holders)

Regards

Jurgen

You need to establish two connection points in the tender to which you attach the lines from each davit. The stern davit sling typically attaches to two eye bolts through the transom. The bow davit sling attaches to D-rings fixed on the inside of the bow tubes - if they aren't there you can fix them yourself - or to the bow towing eyes on the outside of the bow tubes.
Davit slings can be wire or webbing, fixed length or adjustable:

First you need to be able to attach quite low down in the dinghy. On the transom if possible, but the outboard may preclude this. There is normally one eye on the inside of the bow, this is your starting point, if there is not one, fit one, follow all the instructions and use the right glue, it's not a job for Bostick. Google Poly Marine. For the stern, you need a bridle as above, it needs to be tight, you may have to get one made up by a yacht rigger. (Not expencive).

Once all this is done, wind the dinghy up to the top of the davits, you will now most likely find, that the bow is held secure, but the stern hangs some way from the davit and swings about. How close it gets will depend on what I've already said.

Now get your wood yard to provide with, two pieces of hard wood, teak, Iroka or simlar, say 8" long, 6" deap and about the width of the davits, with an ark shaped bottom end, same as your tubes. See your local sheet metal man and get some scrap pieces of S Steel cut into about 2" by whatever and strap the blocks in place, over the tubes.
The dinghy should now be held firm. However, and back to Poly Marine, they can supply you with a davit fitting for the dinghy, which is about 2" thick and will slot in to your blocks. Maybe need to make the slot bigger.

Course I am presuming you have a pair of Simpson or Whttal ss davits, with extendable arms.

"Have the 2 Davit arms fixed to the transom with the sheets running through pully,s"

Ok forget it, as you discribe, it wont work.

However, I do have a nice pair of Whittal davits here, Ok one needs mending, but whats a bit of metal bashing when 4 grand a throw.
