Morning all..

I would be grateful for a bit of advise if possible, I have a 1995 Maxum 18" speedboat, very nice (135hp I/O with Alpha drive). I use it at least once a week for wakeboarding with a few buddies. The boat is in very good condition except the hull finish, which is looking very tired. The original colour is maroon (dark red really) and was once upon a time very shiny. Does anybody have a foolproof method of returning the finish, or at least improving it a bit.
I should also point out that I live in Abu Dhabi, UAE and the boat has to suffer very high temps, this weekend was 40+, and very high salt content in the water.
Any help would be greatly apprecited.

A good clean with Farecla 10, a very mild cutting compound, plenty of good quality polish finished with a buffing machine should do the trick. Hard work but worth it.

You won't need a lot of chemical on an 18inch boat. I assume that you mean 18ft but still a very funny mental image of you and your mates attempting to wakeboard with an 18" boat.

We just used Y10 to clean up all stains and brighten the topsides and then polished them with International polish, fabulous results. You might need a cutting polish too but the Y10 will take off any oxidation and stains to start with which is a good start for relatively low effort.

Stand on your boat stark naked with arms akimbo, When the police arrive ask the WPC nicely if she would mind cleaning the boat.

Hi,

The cutting agents mentioned may help to bring your boat back to life a little, however I have to tell you that the colour red is the most unstable pigment of all colours and when left in the sun fades badly! just look at any red car that has been around a few years! they all fade! sadly I fear the only way you will get that new glossy look back for your boat is to have it completely resprayed! But good luck with the cutting agents first!

Barry

P.S. If you do respray it, try a different colour!
