there's a trade in empty containers going back to China to be filled up with replica smith&wessons, fridges, and nav lights.

I dunno how to get in touch with the shipping companies, but the process is known as "consolidation" and there should be websites devoted to companies asking for part loads.

The container ID would be too narrow, the OD beam is just 8' 2" or 2.5m for both 20 and 40 ft. boxes.
