My expensive set of Douglas Gill ocean oilies has started to leak. In today's downpour I got seriously damp along a line across the back - it looks as though the seam which runs between the armpits has failed as the rest of the fabric is fine. The seam is covered by a strip of transparent tape.

Has anyone tried re-proofing seams on non-breathable fabric?

ost climbing or hillwalking shops can sell you seam repair stuff. Just take it in to show them problem. Far better qualified than most chandlers

Send them back to Douglas Gill. I've found them very helpful in the past. In fact, I'll be sending my jacket back, as soon as the season is over, to have a zip replaced.

You've obviously had more luck than me. My Gill sailing bag has zips with metal sliders that all seized up after being on board for a cruise. When I wrote to them I didn't even get a reply!

At least the Gill stuff lasted longer than the Henri-Lloyd TP1 trousers, They managed 36 hours before giving up. Not nice having a damp bum for 19 days.

Send them back to Douglas Gill, I managed to melt the back of the legs of the trousers by standing in front of a fire too long....no comments! Sent them back to be patched and mentioned that they leaked in a most embarrassing position...no probs they replaced the whole thing at no cost.

Failing that try Aquasure...I use it on my drysuits so it should cope with oilies. You can get it at most dive shops.
