On the boat we have the Origo 3000 stove with 2 burners.
I hate the smell of it, but it works fine.
The problem is, that the fuel is sold in 5 liter cannisters, making the filling a messy operation and spilling half of the fuel.

Has anybody a solution for this?

I use this method for easier filling of oil lamps etc.
Collect any empty toilet duck type bottles from the house. Decant the fuel into them... the "round the rim" neck will stop spills.
Use different colours for paraffin, meths, lamp oil etc.

The downside is you have to do the shopping for dometic consumables for a while.

I add about 10% water to a full container 5 or 1 litre bottles. I find that if I decant a litre at a time from a 5 to a 1 litre bottle its easier. The water does kill the smell and I find 1 litre does the two containers for a weekend...
Oh.. tip the container when pouring, you will notice that there's a dent in the mesh which helps the filling..

Thanks everybody for your input!
I will try the 10% water trick to reduce the smell.
I did notice the dent in the mesh, but did not know that this is to facilitate the filling (the stove came with the boat when we bougt it second hand last year).
I do like the idea of the wash bottles, and will try to get one in the Netherlands!

Thanks again and best regards,
Jan

JAn.....beware the instruction about 10 % water....this is for UK boaters who use Methelated spirits as we are not trusted to use the correct alchohol which you use.....this trick might not work with your alchohol..

Fully agree.
1) it makes filling easier
2) it is safer, as the large 5L container is kept away from the kitchen area, and stored in an aerated place

My stove came with a small utensil: a 5cm piece of curved metal, banana shaped. Cut-a-hollow-cone-in-half, that sort of shape. This can slide between the mesh and the reservoir. Makes it easier to fill.
