How to attach rubber rubbing strake?

We've taken the rotten timber rubbing stake off our catamaran and decided to replace with a white rubber rubbing strake from Wilks. The bolt holes from the timber job won't be in the right place so how do we attach it? The hull deck joint is sort of like a shoe box lid and I had thought of using a strong adhesive and some short self tapping screws into the double thickness GRP to hold it whilst the adhesive goes off. What do you think?
 
The easiest profile to attach is the one that has an additional round plastic pipe that goes over the fixings:

With this, it is normal to have a bit of flat section aluminium bar inside the slot, and to self tap through the metal/fender and into the hull deck join. The later adding of the pipe hides the fixing.
