No Rum Pirate, I wouldn't either. The colors....they'd work in the 70's with the orange and pea green walls, but not now.

I do appreciate the old days tho. A look at the movie Titanic gives me pause. There was somethings special about those days; maybe the birth of the lady boater/yachtie. Never was a'fore then.

It's clearly not drawn from life.

The delicate lattice work rails go straight past a stonking great cleat that would hold an Ocean Liner, but there is no fairlead so the fancy railings would be crushed as soon as any weight fell on a suitable sized mooring warp.

I think he has used Crosschannel Ferry experience to feed his imagination about "Yotting". As we all know, only the idle rich can possibly spare the time & money needed to go "Yotting".

I don't think T-L is generally regarded as being from the hyper-realist school. It probably looks more convincing after a few bottles of absinthe.

It's the artist's impressionist view, it doesn't have to be perfect. It's nicely done and has it's place with those that don't see from a "yotties" eye. Most people don't see what we see, but it really doesn't matter does it? It brings the landlubber a little closer to understanding what we find alluring, captivating and an Eden.

Back to what I said earlier, I wouldn't hang it in my house, but it's acceptable to me with its minor realistic imperfections. Acceptable to me I said, but in someone else's house. :p

SR, He was 'idle rich' and colours or not I would hang any of his work here. Originals only, of course ;-)

It is strange that Toulouse-Lautrec who was a superb draughtsman should draw the deck chair so clumsily. There is no sense that the woman's body is sitting in the canvas, though the overall design is interesting as one would expect.

For a taste of a more recent past, what about this from the Broads in 1962. My student friend is wearing a shirt and tie, as I probably was too?
