I can mostly live on 12v for days, I've led lights so the fridges (and I turn 1 off if i've no power for a while) are the only real drain. All the things I like to keep charged I can charge from 12v (hh vhf, mobile phone, torch, ipod, wife's phone and blackberry).
Water pump is electric with no manual back up so that would be when I'd need a domestic bank charge. The good thing about mobos is you never have to worry about the significant power consumption of nav gear and lights.

But.........

My wife would not come with me unless her hair dryer works. So that's 5 minutes of genny per day when I'm not in a marina. Moan all you like, you'll make less noise than my wife will without her daily fix of making herself feel nice - and no the 12v ones will not do!

ps not rising to the bait about patio doors etc. I always "sail the boat" and my circumnavigating pal tells me off for saying that! You can't sail without sails he says, but the QM2 sails doesn't it?

You hit it on the head Elessar, you may be prepared to go without the luxuries of everyday life (skipper), but if you want the family to go with you (bit hard to justify the expensive toy without them), you need to make allowances.
They want their toys as well, as trivial as they seem, of course dads choice of toy cannot be questioned! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Naaa, I got wheels on mine /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.........Interesting though isn't it, how we all, (stinkie, or raggie), want and take different things from our hobby, pastime.......obsession??

I have to confess to being a little disingenuous when taking the miccy out of the mobo fraternity, I actually have a foot in both camps. I suppose I am lucky really, on the one hand, I get to play with a big powerful mobo, (of which somebody else is picking up the running costs), /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif and just for fun, I have my small sailing boat.

I have to say though that I don't much like the mobos that have come from most of the designers / builders in recent years, they are all starting to look much the same, (a bit like jelly mould cars)? I can see why they attract some people, and also why they meet some peoples criteria, but they aren't for me.

I hope I haven't upset people by my posts, it's all just in fun, well mostly, /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif It is a shame though, regarding some of the posts on these forums, that there seems to be some people that are so anti, either raggie or mobo, personally I think that a bit of consideration, and tolerance for peoples failings would make things a whole lot more pleasant for all.
