Yesterday morning on my way to run a course in Ocean Village, I was crossing the Hamble river and thought "What's that boat doing there?"

On closer observation there were two boats high and dry on the mud.

It transpired that the two boat had been let go from their moorings and our school rib had the pontoon hose put in it with the water full on. Fortunately the boat has "industrial" strength bilge pumps which managed to cope with the flow.

Total scumbags, it tells you something about the state of the nation when you have to consider putting a chain and padlock on your boat when its tied to the pontoon.

Best solution to this sort of crime - chop off all their fingers and say "now go and undo the ropes on the local boats".

Just their fingers?

We have had similar problems, in the Floating Harbour, along with thefts and even the simking of a sailing boat!

Local plod are helping us set up a boat watch scheme. Bit slow getting off the ground due to apathy from some boaters, but interest is gaining.

Sadly it happens everywhere. Went to check out my mooring blocks in a local bay with my diver, both are 2 tonnes each.
Guess what, some bu**ger had lifted them and they've vanished!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Well Dave, as you know, CI was cast adrift 11 months ago - with me asleep on board. Luckily it was a calm night and CI got caught up on the stern of Julie-Ann a few hundred yards down the channel. The perp was prosecuted as a result of the MYC CCTV.

Doubtless it was the same person(s) who tried to swamp your RIB as set the other boats adrift. Any chance of CCTV?

A punishment to fit the crime methinks. Ducking stool / keel haul maybe? And no - for anyone PC out there - I am not joking!

We have not had any such problems re boat, but many re vehicles. With this in mind we had c-pod fitted to Rubber Duck.
Tells us if the boat is opened, moves its position, water level gets too high, battery level gets to low etc. Will not stop the buggers but gives you a sporting chance of limiting damage. Tis a sign of the times, I'm afraid. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thankfully the boat looks ok (from the pic anyway). By shear chance we have a webcam pointing straight at ours (until the guy in front gets back on the water)

I'm surprised that commercial webcams are not more common for boat security . I get it for free but I would happily spend a few hundred quid a year on such a service.

It's bloody jealousy of the scroats. They don't have what you have so instead of improving their position they choose to deprive you.
Little toe-rags.
Some pinched a tender and outboard from our landing and were mooching about the moorings until the museum caretaker spotted them. They scarpered, but plod caught them. Then their parents were summoned from Barnsley and they were sent off home. Bit of a telling-off. Nothing more.

My insurance demands I padlock the boat to it's mooring.
