How old is this outboard?

I am thinking of buying a second hand Mariner 2 outboard. The man I am buying it from cannot tell me the age of the engine but he has given me the engine no. Can anyone tell me how old this engine is from the following number - 6A1 050948

Think you'll find it's a 1994. Anyways the age is less important than how much use/misuse it has had. If
it runs OK and the price is right ..........

If you post a pic I could guess. Obviously not more than about 25 years as mariner only started (as a JV between merc and yam in those days) in about 1976ish). Alternatively ask on the following BB, someone there is nound to know as many dealers use it......
