How old is this outboard

Can anyone tell me from the colour scheme approximately how old this Yamaha outboard is. I thought it was late 1990s but have been told it was pre 1992.

Looks like mine and if so it's a mid to late 80's model. Mine is '85 vintage.

Well I think a dealer will be able to tell you the year from the engine number, after all, it's what they use to obtain parts

This looks the same as my Yamaha 4, which was supplied with a Hunter Horizon 21 in April 1993.

i phoned a yam dealer in rainham essex and got a date for my yam9.9 instantly. they have all the books in front of them..very helpful

I used to have one, pretty sure it was late 80's. Excellent little engine.
