Re: Does size matter?

Sorry Al, but your out of kilter on this one.

When you drift into town with your long fly’ appearing through the mist, the sense of anticipation of what’s underneath starts the juices flowing, and many people will come, wondering what’s underneath.

You slide slowly in and with one final thrust you hit the right spot (with only a little sloshing, and a slight wet patch on the berth), and they all marvel at your enormous toy.

‘Do you come here often?’ is murmured by a very attractive harbour mistress as you unzip from the cockpit, and show your head.

However there’s an overwhelming sense of anti-climax as you climb off the berth and light your cig, and the wishes of Becks being the one in control was plainly just a dream.

We have a 20' bayliner cuddy berthed on Windermere and have made every effort to make it as comfortable as possible extra tabling, lights etc. During the season we stay onboard evry weekend and enjoy every minute. I agree that it is not the size but the enjoyment per pound sterling that is important.

Had a new diesel engine installed mid July last year. Have managed 250 hours since. Have spent most weekends on the boat with girlfriend this and last summer. I also managed to get out 2-3 times a week in the evenings after work. Im in the process of fitting searchlights for night boating thru the winter!!!!

Re: Does size matter?

I'd be the first to admit that I would like mine to be about 3 ft. longer and maybe 2 ft. wider. Think I could still handle it myself under normal circumstances but would not mind if one or two others came and gave me a helping hand. Doubt if that would be big enough for P. though.
I suspect that the au-pair would have been experienced before she came to you as the Swedish countryside and coastline combine to encourage their youth to get very close to nature at an early age. Or atleast it did in the 60s/70s as I discovered to my "horror".

Another happy diesel converter! I've done 60 hours since my conversion at the end of August. Just a note about search lights for winter use - you know you should not use them as you would headlights on a car! Spot lights are OK for docking etc, but not for use for normal running. You nav lights must be used and not confused with/by other lights.

Re: Does size matter?

Well I have been quized since I had the Au pair on my boat, SWMBO saw her return from the marina and told me she sensed there had been a cock up there, I asked why and she just said that she just sensed something, I thought she may have seen some scratches, but there weren't any I had checked. I told her that the Au pair was obviously just overcome by the thrill of it all and that it had all gone well without any problem. Anyway I think my days of going out alone with the Au pair are numbered, although size isn't the issue here as far as I am concerned, it's nice to let someone else who normaly doesn't get the opportunity to have a play with it. I wonder if my days out with the Au pair alone are now numbered, now that SWMBO thinks there has been a cock up, I just wish she would trust me to be safe and careful.

Re: Does size matter?

Size is an issue. Mines too big to handle by myself - definitely need another hand for docking manouvres.

As for frequency, I'm ashamed to admit I've only had it out twice this year. As a result I'm considering a reduction in size for next season. Perhaps smaller, with much more frequent use will be more fun.

Re: Does size matter?

My god - that's a bit drastic!!! What are you going to do with the bit that's left over?

Re: Does size matter?

Well, I thought I'd put it to work, and use it to pay the bank manager with.

To be fair, I'm only talking about chopping 10 feet off, so there will be plenty left!!!
