How NOT to tie up your tender/dinghy.

The worst place I can remember was St Marys ( Scilly) a huge raft of dinghies all snuggly tied into the corner I had to go back to the boat for another warp to extend the painter. Amusing though as people returned and the tide had gone out leaving dinghies sitting on the sand surrounded by others and the only way of getting to the water was to lift them up over several others.

I agree that tenders should be tied up on long lines to accommodate others. I think it’s fine to post pictures of unhelpful mooring; but I do think that some of the suggestions for direct action on this thread are deplorable.

We can’t hold our heads up as a civilised society and also march around armed with angle grinders to deal with things we don’t like.

This is sailing, let’s not behave like Grand Theft Auto characters.
Instead of causing criminal damage with an angle grinder you can always be helpful and place additional security on their chain by donating a spare padlock.....😉 No, I'm not serious - but I must confess to smiling about such a thing when faced with such selfishness.

I think there's a few things around sailing where the etiquette is only learned through experience or being in the right place at the right time
Very much so
The freedom in sailing can be difficult to cope with in the early days.
I would say about 90% of the things we grumble about with others is due to this. I cringe when I think k about things I did.

Ever been to Salcombe?

That headline gave me the wobbles. Thght I was going to be facing a crystal clear pic of my clapped out old old tub lashed to the shore chain.
