Why does a new Honda 2.3hp outboard from Mailspeed cost £399
when a new Honda 4.5hp lawn mower from B&Q cost £299?

And you can't mow the lawn with the outboard!

Go to the Honda dealer at Warsash and ask for a discount. I got 5% on the retail price of £399. They were the best deal at the time.

Reckon it's because Honda probably sell 5K outboards a year and 50K mowers.

+ it's a 'marine' item. LOL.

As you wouldn't dream of cutting your grass when its wet, the lawnmower is not marinised where as the outboard is !

Because of the well known fact that anything prefaced "boat" can be sold for much more than a similar product intended for any other use! Compare otherwise identical "helmsman's" and "gardening" gloves...

OTOH some people would prefer to believe in any other "explanation" of differential pricing than the simple "what the market will bear". Obviously two screws in a blister pack hanging in a swindlery are going to cost far more each than a box of 100 direct from the supplier, and items with lower annual sales justify a somewhat higher price, but once the differential significantly exceeds what can be reasonably justified by these sorts of factors then I, for one, believe that the urine is being extracted!

[/ QUOTE ] in what respect is the mower similar to the outboard? Does the mower also die at inopportune moments and vibrate like a road roller?
