Morning!

What a pleasant thought to be having at this hour!

I'm afraid it doesn't sound unrealistic. We contacted our Volvo Penta outift down here about servicing our Petrol 431's and the combined leg/engine service came to £700 + VAT. If you've been 'blessed' with a pair then £1200 + V is about right.

It's our first year with this boating business too but I contacted the chap who's serviced our boat since birth and he's qoting around £500 all in. Might be worth doing a bit of digging next year!

Best of luck...

Steep aint the word!! Do you have to have it done by a main dealer? Is it warranteed or something? Could you use a local trusted engineer.

Just had both V6 Volvo's serviced on my Windy 8800. Also, I had the fridge repaired and rewired, the s'bd ignition switch and relay repaired, both engine thermostats replaced, the drinking water system repaired - for how much??

£500, all in.

You've made me feel good this morning. I've just DIY serviced my twin KAD 43's and after paying about £200 for the bits (all anodes, all the filters and impellors) and another £100+ for oil and £150 to fly to Porto di Roma to do it. I was wondering if it was at all economic.

I would like to sound surprised and horrified but i'm not. But it certainly appears a tad high unless there's more to the tale ?

I'd shop around too, just had AD31P full service, winterised, lifted boat to hard standing, drained hot and cold domestic water system, jet washed hull and drive.
£513 + vat, some parts I provided.

thanks to all who wrote, i did question my sanity but as boat same as caravan (stick another nought on pricing) thought it may have been right but how wrong i was , i will spend the remainder of the week on the phone...it was a main volvo company that was to do the job so that may be where the inflated bit is

Depends what's involved. 'Main' service was mentioned, for engine AND legs. If this involves taking legs off, replacing all those bellows and things, all anodes, etc, etc, then probaby getting close to this price? THis from a main dealer. Doesn't sound totally improbable

If it was me I would ask for the service schedule to see what I was getting for my hard earned cash. Then think if I could do it myself. once you know what they are going to do theres nothing stopping you estimating time and materials for yourself is there.

Re: comparisons

Sounds like we need (yet another) new forum. Post prices of services, who by, what they did, how happy we were with what was done, what area.

Now that would be a very helpful resource! Never sure if what I'm paying is mainstream or value for money

These stories kill me.
The service kit for my mercruisers and outdrives are £ 750.
That includes anodes, bellows, filters, impellers, elements v belts and oil, then there is exhaust bearings gimbell bearings and must be at least 12 hours labour unless the bellows need replacing.
Then theres is the lift out and scrub and anti foul and back in.
Anyone who knows anyone who can service the engines and drives properly and save me dosh willl be amply rewarded
