Channel 4`s ``Time Team`` are coming to make a show and have requested an indication of costs, We will be assisting with 2 maybe 3 boats for 3 to 4 hours with volunteer crews.whilst a contribution to club funds will be most welcome we do not wish to appear to be grasping. Any thoughts on what would be a fair and reasonable donation?

Be commercial - I think Channel 4 are. They want experienced boat handlers giving a "professional" service. BUT are you insured if you do it for money?

3 crew for 4 hours each at £10 min an hour equals £120 per boat plus use of boat etc. Total of £150 - £200 per boat would be reasonable.

Think commercially. How much do you value your time and what would it cost to charter your boat for half a day? They'll earn a packet advertising haemorroid creams etc.

As the team has requested a sailing yacht, there will be a Dockeral 17 with cuddy, and possibly a Macwester 24 plus a 3metre rib.

Go for at less £500 a boat a day + liferaft / saftey equipment hire (H&S grounds) . Its nothing to them but a lot to your club.

I think it is fair to ask them for a good contribution to club funds in return for 'free' use of boats, volunteers and to cover costs like fuel and wear and tear. I would also stipulate that they must insure the boats and have public liability insurance to cover the volunteers.

After all, they are not chartering and you are giving up your time and club equipment to help them out.

I think that at least £300 per crewed boat would be equitable.

PS. If you see Tony Robinson, will you give him a slap from me, please.

Thank you for your input , We had decided to ask for a contribution along those lines.
If I give him a slap would that go under the heading`` Happy Slapping?``

I used to own a pretty clapped out house and Granada wanted to use one of the rooms for Spiders flat.. They asked me what I wanted for it..... I would have been happy with £100 a time.

My other half used to go out with a grip who does a bit for coronation st., and she suggested asking for a retainer of £100 per week, and £500 every time they used it.

I would suggest that you think of the number you first thought of, multiply it by 5, and see what they say.... they may negotiate it down, (but until they reach the number you first thought of you are ahead), or they might just agree.

Given it is TV, and Channel4 I would ask for a contribution to club funds of £500 per boat and team. Also throw in free Parking, use of clubhouse etc.

It it was a film crew making a motion Picture you could treble that.

They will not Flinch at £1500 as it is a location cost. Make sure you get the cheque off a production accountant otherwise you may wait a while.

Most of all enjoy it!

Cheers
