At my local yard they charge £70 + labour (£22/hr + VAT) for stepping the mast, and then approx. £12.50/metre for launching... so a total of about £225.
Why on earth do they charge per metre for launching, what are the on costs expressed by length.
Weight I could almost understand, number of masts definitely.
But in AWB terms a 28ft one master must take exactly the same time and effort as a 32ft one master(up to SWL of crane or hoist)?
Cost me £30 to have my mast stepped this year on a 32ft vessel. Last time I had a crane in to launch TG, (two years ago) it was £180 for the minimum half day hire. But then we launched three boats in that time.
I pay approx £40 each way for the mast and about £70 for the boat. Would have to check bills for exact figures, usually for the mast they round down as it is by the hour but we do all the work, just use the crane and driver.
I feel we do quite well with the boat hoist as we are only charged for 26ft.
The other thing, we generally always lift in summer for painting etc. or step the mast in the quite times in January, so I think the work is a little more sparse. I guess the yard would rather be busy than quibble on costs.
This year we will paint on the beach, tend to only lift every other.
I can only say from my YC point of view.
Stepping is free providing you do it yourself (club provides mast lift etc)
Launching is £75 on Wise travel hoist.
