How much is my 24V Livol D60 Watermaker worth?

I've had a couple of enquiries about my Livol D60 Watermaker. I really have no idea how much to ask for it, perhaps you chaps could give me a ball-park figure that is fair to both parties.

The boat was built in 2000, and the Livol was fitted a couple of years later, not sure of the exact date. It was used only when the boat was in Menorca, which was for about two years. Since then the Livol has been pickled, and the pump was last tested about a year ago. Obviously I can’t test the unit without having to go through this process again, but it was working fine when last used.

Livol no longer manufacture these units, but I have found a company that have taken over the spare part supply: http://www.slce.net/index_gb.php

As you can see from the pictures below, there is a lot of kit that you need in addition to the watermaker itself, all will be included with the exception of the sea-cocks. There is some surface corrosion on a few of the valves, but otherwise it is all pretty clean. The output is 60 litres (13 UK gallons) / hour, 1440 litres (315 gallons) / day.

Its only worth what someone is prepaired to pay for it.
how old is it, how much use has it had, when was its last full service.
how old are the filters, do they need changing.
You say its working, but its been pickled for some time.
Value, a new one costs? then deduct wear and tare 10% PA, cost of full service, cost of filters and you have a price, drop another 10% there you go

I don't know how much a new one of this capacity (60 litres per hour) would cost, any ideas? As for wear and tear, it has only been used for 2 years, but I think it would be reasonable to deduct 10% for between 6 and 7 years, taking the figure neatly down to 50%. Filters and service, open to suggestions.

Price it high (70% of new?) and reduce the price 10% each week or month depending on your timescale. Announce in the ad that this is what you are doing.

Part of the problem is that I don't know what such units cost. Unfortunately your suggestion doesn't help me get a fair price for the current interested party.

[Later] By using the normal Google search, rather than Google Shopping, I've now managed to find a couple of similar models in the UK, they cost £4300. A full filter kit is about £200, as is a new membrane (if needed), so does £2000 sound about right?

blimey! a full filter kit, that's what, a 5 and 20micron filters? Should be 20quid max! am I missing something?
However, check that the el cheapo/standard DOW chemicals SW30-2540 (60lt/h) RO membrane fits this particular system! These do cost 200quid delivered from NL, others can be rather pricey 400+.

cheers

V.

PS. since I'm one of the persons enquired, a few more comments are coming on PM Nigel.

£3780, I see on the web new.
£1000 2nd hand without the service.

I based the filter price on a single example for another unit. Having checked further it appears that the kit includes the membrane, but for a smaller unit. I imagine that these are all standard sizes.

Do you have a link for the DOW unit, or perhaps you could check and get back to me?

Last year, I sold a new unused 12v Livol D30 with every possible part to install it for £900. I'd had it in storage for a while so no idea if the membrane was still OK, but the unit and all the parts were brand new. On that basis, I would have thought your model potentially has a smaller target audience as it's 24V plus may not have the same appeal as the D30 because of the power consumption. Note also that SLCE only have a very limited range of spares for these older water makers. Based on this, your unit could well be worth south of £900.

New unused watermakers do come up on fleabay from time to time, I expect from people who've changed their plans or whose dream has gone sour - IIRC, they seldom fetch > £1.5k.

£200 sounds cheap for a membrane too and I personally would never buy a watermaker secondhand without factoring in a new membrane as there is no way of testing it without running it. its impossible to know too if there are any leaks on the High pressure side without running and any replacement parts could be very expensive as they are usually bespoke for each company so I would never recommend buying an R.O. unit without seeing it run. It sounds as though you have not seen it run yourself for 2 years so you cannot guarantee that it actually works. I cant see anyone spending £1000 one something like that. (if there is please give me their address and I will try some cold calling!!)

I've just heard back from Sailfish Marine, they are prepared to "sell from my website on a commision [sic] basis" and suggest that "I think £1500 is not unrealistic but I would be prepared to accept £1000 for a quck [sic] sale ...". Regarding servicing, they say: "a new membrane will be around £200 (assuming it uses standard Dow Filmtec sizes) a service would be around £150 plus parts assuming there are no major problems ..."

I'm not interested in a quick sale (or indeed a "quck sale" :)) so I think I will put it on eBay at £1500 if the current parties don't want it. Thanks for all the replies, some useful info above.

I've just heard back from Sailfish Marine...
Just a quick note re. Jim at Sailfish Marine. I bought a new watermaker from him at SBS. He offered me what I feel was a good price with a lot of extras thrown in. He doesn't do any installs himself, these days, but will come down and check on how you're doing if you're nearby. He's also provided extra bits and pieces where I've suddenly realised I needed them at no extra charge.
Not massively relevant to this thread, but just thought I'd give him the thumbs up!
