How Much Is It Worth?

If anyone would care to read my thoughts on the economy in the world of boats and see if you agree with them or not, as the case may be, I'd like to raise my cuppa to you.

seriously, it's a big mistake to think about the value of a boat in pounds, shillings and pence - you can very quickly convince yourself that you are mortgaging your life to keep a bunch of half rotted planks floating! The calculation is heart attacks avoided, tumors that mysteriously have not grown where they were scheduled to grow, Altzheimers that has decided to go back to sleep and other good things!

You look to be a similar age to me - perhaps a bit younger - and, like me, I bet you like your chips and beer more than you should, have a natural tendency to put your feet up on a Sunday afternoon and gaze glazed at the box, and generally ignore that brick wall of old age looming in the (now closer) distance!

Twenty years ago, old age was so far away that I could easily ignore it and shove an extra sausage in the frying pan. Now, suddenly, I've become aware that friends and colleagues are falling by the wayside. Our salesman (and a very old friend) started having headaches a couple of years ago, then had a fainting fit - I attended his funeral last month - and he was only about five years older than me. One of our financial modellers last week had dinner with a couple of colleagues in the hotel restaurant, went to his room and was never seen alive again - he was ten years younger than me!

So, that hole in the water surrounded by rotting planks may be worth zero money - actually its monetary value is negative - but it may be worth ten years of good life - possibly twenty? Enjoy it!

Boats are only worth what the buyer wants to pay, I think mine is worth every penny of my time and effort.....
