How much does the average yacht captain earn monthly?

Very few will be employed on a monthly salary basis but will be paid on short term contracts or a daily rate. Google "Yacht crew agencies" and you will get many agents who operate in this market. They will give you a good idea of what the requirements are and the sort of rates of pay you can expect for different kinds of assignments.

Welcome to the forum, to be more specific about rates. Based on the few guys that I know that are doing this kind of thing. A jobbing freelance skipper working on other people's yachts for deliveries and on-board tuition, you are looking in the £100-200/day range. For the fulltime skipper of a superyacht that has world cruising capabilities and a crew of 6 up, then around £100k is not unusual.

.....and is likely to be employed by an Arab and is likely to be a retired RN Commander (at least).

Based on 20 something years of watching Commanders RN at work on their very occasional forays to sea in commandI would be surprised that any of them would be much use at ship handling, though they would do ceremonial, making sure the crew cleaned the boat and greeting the owner and his guests quite well.

Er - as an ex RN Commander I suppose I take a bit of umbrage at that!!!!!

Most of the blokes driving the mega money stuff out in the Caribbean are youngish. Well everybody seems young to me nowdays but even so 30 to 40 seems about right.

Always interesting to watch one come in through the bridge in St Marten then wiggle her way inbetween two other boats each worth megabucks for a stern too mooring. No stress there and they earn every penny.

Some serious money in that row behind the little match racing sailboat.

Not really
I know an engineer who works on superyachts
He just did a short stint at college & is never short of work
He often earns more than the captains because of his ability
Usually does 3 months on &. 1 month off unless the owner needs to use the boat or there is a special charter arranged
They are all normal guys who make a living from working on superyachts all around the world

Nah mate the RN should be kept well away from handling ships near land. :)
MN Masters on the other hand, are used to driving odd shaped boats into strange ports and creeks!

Rate of pay, ask around you'll huge differences in your answers, anything from £1,000 to £5,000 per month. But on a contract/per charter basis.
Personally I wouldn't take less than £3000 per month for a skippers position. And I think you'd struggle to find one worth his salt that would.

Wages vary from boat to boat. You'll earn more on charter boats, but you work much harder for it.
