How many running hours before wear on a Volvo SX drive?

after 530 running hours one drive, and 550 hours the other drive, need a brass cone replacement, (clutch)
drives have done 3 seasons from new, and had their normal yearly maintenance (new oil)

during the last maintenance (mars 2011) they overfilled oil in the drives,
boat has been running 20hrs with too much oil in both drives (completely full)

I am wondering if this could be the cause of this wear on this brass component, or if this is normal wear.

the boat is regulary heavy loaded with divers and their gear.

any advice / experience is apreciated, thanks !

Bart, if your question is meant to understand whether also the second (not overfilled) outdrive might have a similar wear, I'd be surprised if it wouldn't. I mean, I don't see how 20 hours of overfilled operation could be in itself a reason for abnormal wear.
I'm just using common sense though, no direct experience.
Surely there are other forumites which can give you a more specific suggestion.

just to clarifie;

"both" drives were overfilled,

the manual specifically say's
"overfilling might cause damage"

I was just thinking that overfilling could cause extra pressure on certain parts, (?), or more difficult moving of oil between parts... (?)
no compression / expansion of a aircompartment possible

or is it normal to expect wear after 550hrs ?
its like if you have to replace a part in your car gearbox / clutch after 50000km :o

I dont know about the sx drive specifically but think 550h is a bit early however it might not be the hours that kills the clutch, its probably how much you take them in and out of gear.

Aha. Well, in this case it's probably a good idea to check also the other leg, regardless of whether it was the overfilling to kill the clutch or not.
Re.damage, the only reason I can think of is that if the drive is designed to run with a certain amount of oil, maybe overfilling could lead to overheating, hence with a loss of some oil properties.
But I'd still be surprised if 20hrs of usage alone, and with fresh oil (albeit overfilled) could be enough to make such damage.
Then again, no direct experience, so what do I know...?
