Every cloud has a silver lining.
Boaters are amongst the most self-sufficient, innovative, technically capable 'early adopters' in the country. With small plants that can batch-make 50l of biodiesel at a time now available off the shelf for around £700, I'm expecting boaters to start exploring this route fairly quickly. Smaller plants can even be fitted directly to boats - this is a 50l kit:
Of course it's quite legal as long as you register using form EX103 and submit a monthly return on form HO930 with a cheque for the excise duty you owe on the diesel you've made.
And biodiesel can be made from any old waste oil or fat - I'd guess even an average sized EU commissioner would yield 30l of biodiesel if properly rendered down first ....
