Every cloud has a silver lining.

Boaters are amongst the most self-sufficient, innovative, technically capable 'early adopters' in the country. With small plants that can batch-make 50l of biodiesel at a time now available off the shelf for around £700, I'm expecting boaters to start exploring this route fairly quickly. Smaller plants can even be fitted directly to boats - this is a 50l kit:

Of course it's quite legal as long as you register using form EX103 and submit a monthly return on form HO930 with a cheque for the excise duty you owe on the diesel you've made.

And biodiesel can be made from any old waste oil or fat - I'd guess even an average sized EU commissioner would yield 30l of biodiesel if properly rendered down first ....

Wow, I'm in the process of making a biodiesel refinery in our garage. I haven't done anything to it for the last 2 or 3 months because I've been too busy but it certainly isn't going to end up costing £700, I guess I will have spent no more than £100 by the time it is finished.

mmm... Harlequin's tanks take 1000 litres of diesel, that makes about 400 cats per fill (and we only have 2 /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif). With this method cats will become very nervous of crossing the road!

I knew my cat was good for something...... only got to find one more stinking puddle of cats wee on toilet floor (usually by treading in it, in my half still asleep mode) , or one more pile of cat crap in my bath when I come downstairs in the morning, and shes contributing to my first fill up next year!!!!!!!
