I've got 3 biggish bouncy ones, 2 burst ones, one wee one, and one big round one probably high on the cliffs off Cap de la Hague .. I'm worried that not only am I underfendered but that the fendering capabilities may not be up to scratch (sic) .. any advice appreciated

We'll go alongside and you can raft up. Either we say yours is a charter boat and I raft up to you or I'm heavier so you raft up to me. If the latter is the case, hire an extra load of fenders. After the hielan odessa is over, bung extra fenders in boot of car. Result - Lovely Glen Rosa has plenty for both sides - which seems to have become something of an issue in these parts!
Is TCM lowering the dose on his medication - he's never been the same since he took us into those toilets - mind you, neither has Para

As a child of the 70's I have now used all my old space hoppers, pierced their ears and now have all 6 of them strung either side of my boat.

I can sell you some if you like, they can also be fitted with gps and auto pilot so if you give me your position I'll send one bouncing on its way to you.

It's a worry Jim, and I have also been reviewing the contents of my fendercatorium in the light of recent postings.

I have 2 monsters and 6 matching fenders. I tried buying some cheap socks, but they unravelled and ended up dangling in the water like under-nourished scroti. They cost a great deal of money, to the extent that I now rarely use them whilst sailing.

Q. What do you buy the man who has everything?

A. Another fender.

I have enough aboard for 4-a-side, plus a mammouth one I found floating, which is in the garden shed because there's no room for it in the cockpit locker. In the best tradition of manky old boats, my fenders are non-matching.

Re: Here comes trouble;-)

Attrociously unseamanlike way of providing your position Jimi - and you a YM too.

Personally, I've found that leaving four good stout fenders only causes people to raft up next to me. So I now use 6 partially inflated condoms instead. I've no idea how effective they are since no-one has rafted alongside since the introduction of my new method.

I can understand why you've got so many .. I've seen you manouvreing .. have you considered a bow thruster like Nicho? Was the one you found floating orangish in colour?

But, but...

..the photo on your website shows Indigo tied up in Cherbourg without any visible fenders. Given the recent post on this subject which almost resulted in thermonuclear war, perhaps you'd better airbrush some in PDQ.

Indigo looks lovely, tho'....

Whilst coming through the Crinan canal 2 years back I had a total of 10 fenders in use, some wagg passing in his nice new Moody shouted across to me "are you sure you have enough fenders?" my theory is they are no use in the greenhouse, as my extra one's were last weekend hence my last post!!! at the end of the day I came out of the canal with not a hint of gravel rash...I wonder often if the Moody managed the same.....anyway rather pissed off with Kim that my last thread was stopped at 80 plus, I was hoping to show Brian Larra a thing or to and top the 400. With regard using condom's do you need to use the extra tough gay sex version's???

Why do you keep your fenders in the green house?
a)Paint them green & pretend they're cucumbers.
b)Hope they'll reproduce
c)Use 'em as grow bags for Tome's herbiage
d)Greenhouse about to fall down

Carry as many as you can as they are lot cheaper that gel coat repairs. I carry 6 large fenders 4 small ones and 2 large bouy type ones. Its also worth carrying as couple of good planks as well.

Re: Here comes trouble;-)

I heard it said that the best way to protect your boat is to use babies.

I wonder what's the best way of attaching them over the side?

I've always wondered how many fenders would be required in order to obviate the need for a liferaft? Suppose a load of fenders might be cheaper and not require servicing?

Dozens and dozens plus 2 short planks (that bit should be easy for you) and then make your perfect raft.
