......and the winner is
.....all of us
A special mention to those families who have looked after boats for the best part of a century.
And a lifetime achievement award to those far sighted folks who spotted what they wanted, bought the boat brand new, and own it for keeps.

24 years - from new.

But my oldest bit of kit on board is a dinghy anchor (thames pattern) plus its new-fangled terylene warp that my father bought some 45 years ago

Any one else got a bit of rope in use that old?

[/ QUOTE ]My old strops from 1985 are now in the car boot as a tow rope, so that's probably around 22 years.. not bad for abused polyprop.

As to sail time ? First went on Enterprise Dinghy at 5yrs old, father had a string of boats and we raced, cruised ... fluffed about in Solent etc. ... now I'm 53 yrs old and still playing about with them !! One day I might know what I'm doing !! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's an old sailing club quiz question - "What is the only rope you'll find on a sailing boat?"

Answers in a plain brown envelope, accompanied by a tenner.

Sigh... the bolt rope on a sail....

I've owned my Hillyard for nearly 10 years. She's 41 years old.
My parents however, had her built, and owned her for her first 10 years! She then went on to be owned by three other owners in the intervening years, before 'coming home'.

Before this Hillyard I also owned a smaller sister for 9 years.

That's the first thing I've won for years!

I want to thank my family for supporting me, my Day Skipper Practical instructor for pushing me to succeed - and most of all you - my public - for the recognition you have shown me.

I'm sorry - I...I have to go now, I'm just too overcome with emotion to say any more. Thanks, I love you all! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hmm.

Family shares in Eider Duck for 15 years or so (wood, 24ft gaff Griffiths Cockler).
Green Gini I owned for all of 7 weeks (glass, 33ft Countess ketch; posts passim).

Next one I hope I'll have for as long as ED rather than GG. Don't know if I will ever get as much bang for my buck as we have had out of Eider Duck though.... I wanted her since I was 7 years old, bought half in my twenties, now in forties with the sprogettes & SWMBO need something bigger. GG was perfect, sigh.

Full steam ahead
