Called into Torquay today to top up with diesel, chap on the pump was telling me that the 90' Italian jobbie on the marina pulled in recently to fill up and it took 5 hours!!

Can anyone beat that?

I have a venting problem on my Port tank (the tank vents through the filler pipe for some reason) So if I am determined to fill it right up and be able to see pure diesel in the filler pipe that can take me a good 45mins as I have to let the last 40litres trickle in.
Not 5 hours though, perhaps TCM can better that/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Can you imagine the hassle of having a Gas Turbine powered boat, you would have to order your Jet A1 in a tanker to meet you on a quay somewhere.

I didn't time him but I was in Blankenberg once when a Dutchman came in and took aboard 12,000 gallons. I only wanted a 100 so he stopped the pump, filled me up and then carried on. He wouldn't accept my money and apologised profusely to me for blocking the pump. Now! that's what I call I nice guy. I think he was wealthy /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

if it was an italian jobbie thin i saw it anchor up at blackpool sands, round near dartmouth. it was an Azimut. huge it was. they launched their tenders- a sitdown jet ski, and a big zodiac rib with a 70hp mariner four stroke. we had our small rib down there and were blatting about. when it left, it was only doing about 3 knots? he was probably trying to save money!!

Must be a blimmn slow pump and/or a massive tank - we took 4000 litres this morning in about 40 minutes, cheapest and easiest is to getta big lorry to come round then no blocking the fuel dock. At the same rate 5 hours would gettim 30,000 litres (=24 tonsish) and possibly sink the boat .

UK is famous for slow petrol pumps - anyone who has filled up a rental car in the US will know they are much faster and presumably running adverts on the tellies in UK petrol stations means the pumps will get slower, not faster.

What!! 5hours!!! I'm still laughing. I certainly don't want to beat that - but then again maybe I do. It would mean that I have got lots of money!

5 months 10 minutes

Five months to save up the money and then 10 minutes at the petrol pump

Re: It\'s a rubbish pump

We filled up at that pump in Torquay on 5/7/03 and it took ages.
It is obviously "only" a forecourt petrol-style pump and not the usual large bore diesel one at most marinas. They only have one so we couldn't fill up each side simultaneously. It must have taken us 30-40 minutes and we only took about 200 gals.

OTOH it is a VERY big Azimut.

Re: Nope Clive

I didn't see any response from you, so I hoped you would talk to Phil and he might get Rob who then MIGHT come back to me, but nothing happened.
Anyway we managed to get a v nice helpful bloke - Will Rahdler, who worked at Plymouth Yacht Haven - who brought our boat back home with his mate as engineer on 31/7.
So the boat is "home" and we werew able to go out last Sun for a real Med-like day on the Solent.
So thanks anyway but forget it all we'll catch up with Rob later ? at SBS

Does the pump cut out at every 100ltrs like forecourt pumps do.

The one in our marina is different to forecourt ones but only allows 100ltrs at a time,, And what a pain in the a**e that is!!!!!!!!

Dunno about fuel but it takes us over 4 hours to fill our water tanks using the normal pontoon hose. Perhaps its because we have a bath on board - and water tanks to match!!! Mind you, if no-one takes a bath, we can go forever without re-filling.

I have a really slow filler for water, it takes two or three hours to get all the tanks full. (300 gals)
