If you have a sheltered mooring or marina berth is there much point in laying up for 5 or 6 months as seems popular with many folk.Personally I like to get stuck in do the jobs and relaunch.

I know that the osmosis process is slowed down if your boat spends half the year ashore also the sails will wear out more quickly but at the end of the day boats are for using .
(I kept my stretched old sails for winter daysailing and put the good ones on at the start of the summer before we go further afield)

every day afloat makes the hard work and financial cost more worthwile .

Just to make anyone laid up ashore envious this pic was taken about 11am today.(Guess who got a digital camera from Santa.) /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Fully agree with you - we will only taking Moondance out for a couple of weeks later in the spring.

BTW, I know kids can cause problems on board when they fiddle with things, but tying his hands behind his back is a bit much, don't you think! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ive allway tied their hands since the eldest one pulled the stop button on our old boat,(manouvering in a crowded harbour at the time).

Wouldnt have been so bad but noone saw him do it so it was a bit worrying until the truth emerged.

Also sometimes find 600 turns and 20 locking hitches on the roller reefing line or a pretty row of dozens of figure 8s in the main sheet"you DID tell us to practice Dad".

My varnish work is grubby
The sails are going grey
The paintwork is not gleaming
Who cares,we went sailing Today

Well it is coming up to Burns night.....

The photo dissapeared off my original post for some reason?

I should send that digi camera back and get another under the guarantee- it keeps coming up with "No image available" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

um, Not sure wanted other ideas here - rather hoped we'd all agree with you, praps. Fact is there have not been a whole pile of days recently when boating was a pleasant possibility, really - today being the first for a couple of weeks at least round here.

I think Ive only had about 2 day sails since Xmas. All helps to keep me sane though.

The weather, time off work no other commitments all have to coincide on the same day which is asking a lot in Winter.

Just the odd day out or maybe an overnighter somewhere not too far helps to keep me sane until summer.
