How is this weekends forecast shaping up? Where are you planning on going?

I'm hoping to get to Bembridge before the packed weekend and maybe Gosport unless the family wants to come out for a play in Emsworth - don't think you can just go up to a pontoon there though, needs a dinghy ride :(

Simon do you do micro climates ;) Nothing to bumpy 2 miles out of Bembridge this time please :D

If you mean Emsworth there is the town quay which you can sail up to, or Emsworth Marina, even Northney. Depends on tide though for the big boat.

The visitors pontoon at Emsworth will be packed like everywhere this time of the year - confirmed by the H Master. Emsworth Marina is an option but you are kind of stuck there (2 hours either side of HT) so couldn't leave until 2 ish on Sunday. How far is it to walk from your gaff Dave into town and is there any sand around to plonk the kids on for a couple of hours - it will all be mud bank I presume... I hear you are having a party Dave, £10 per head at the marina...

We are limited to overnighting in marinas at the moment - too risky with seasickness on a mooring or at anchor :( I will do it though soon...

The visitor pontoon is packed but the town quay never is but does dry. No sand that I know of unfortunately. My berth will be empty at the weekend so definitely room at the marina and like you said there's a hog roast :)

Where am I planning to go? Winchester, for my mate's wedding :-/

Oh well, I guess weddings work better with sunshine just like sailing does.

I could maybe go for a day-sail on Sunday, but I'm running out of available weekends before our planned Channel Islands trip, and I'd really like to fit some nav equipment before we take the boat out of home waters.

Pete

Also may end up in B'bridge (if there is space on a sunny weekend). Will keep an eye open for your gorgeous boat.

Hi Georgio, I'm going to avoid Bembridge at the weekend as they were rafting six deep last Friday night  Dread to think what Saturday would be like, I am hoping to go for Thursday if I can work tonight but space will still be tight! Thanks for the compliment, will have a look at your blog to see what yacht you have but she looks equally attractive from your avatar. My dream boat is either a Heard 28/Crabber Pilot or a Tradewind 35 - now thats an impressive lump :D

Have fun Pete, you may pick something up at the wedding for your Sunday sail ;)

Not gonna be sailing, gonna be installing GPS and Yeoman.

On the Scuttlebutt trip, we had no functioning electronics on the boat except the depth sounder and the VHF. That's fine for eyeball navigation around the Solent and across to Poole, but I'd prefer to get some more nav gear out of the box in my shed and installed on the boat before we set out across the Channel.

This installation will only be a temporary lashup though - over winter I'll be building a new panel over the chart table and a pair of instrument pods in the cockpit.

Nah just steer South. How hard could it be? You don't need all that kit! ;)

Sod it I'm going down to the boat now, will be interesting rowing a dinghy in a F4-5 in the dark but you've gotta have a go havn't you :D Wish I had gone self employed years ago!!

If you think it's dark I'd suggest giving the boat a miss...

we spent last saturday night in bembridge - there was a well attended moody rally and we were 2nd boat out in a raft of 4 so not too bad - enjoyed our visit but wow it was a hot weekend on board and in the shower block it was more like a sauna , surprised (pleasantly) at how quiet it was at night despite being reasonably busy -perhaps moody sailors are quiet?

Huge excitement, going to cowes classics week on Saturday.

Never been in a regetta before.

Never raced a cruiser before.

Lots to learn!

If you are in cowes, Shepherds Wharf, say hello.

No so Moody Owners

We're just well behaved. Actually I think we were all fairly tired after our beach games and BBQ - but we still didn't get back to our boat until after midnight.

Pity they don't have a temperature control on the showers though!

Off to Davy Balfour's Bay on the Isle of Mull (a place I like to keep quiet). Doh, did I just say that out loud?

Wow, I'm envious, have fun.

The forecast didn't turn out as planned so I have been playing in Chi Harbour last couple of days practising trim & anchoring, oh and coming onto a buoy under sail when the the engine didn't start

(Lustyd I got down at 10pm just in the nick of time before it got pitch black and the wind blew up to a F5 )

Chi Harbour fairly busy during the week already so going to do most of my sailing midweek now.
