...when the light is out on Ada Point.

Despite the near full moon, cloud cover made it a very murky night and entrance to the creek was near impossible to see. I went past it twice, getting closer and closer to the shore until suddenly Marc - from the bow with a torch - yelled out that he could see it. it was about 15' from us and on the wrong side. :eek: Good job it was near hw.
 
You need a pair of these, as seen in different guises on many motorboats on the Crouch....

The birthday fairy bought me last year one of the new generation of LED torches. It is just staggering - almost unbelievable - the amount of light it puts out, and does as a searchlight (and much else). Pocket torch sized (about 8" long, 2" dia?), on/off switch and another button which cycles through about four or five different light strengths (you would rarely need the top one or two, except when using as a searchlight). The beam is very tightly focused, so it is also v good for examining wiring or whatever tucked away at the back on the engine bay, or the top of the mast.

I have probably used up more battery demonstrating how amazing it is than actually using it in earnest. Think it cost about £85 (!!), but is in a different league to the average torch in terms of uses, more portable and easier to store than a searchlight, and a solidly built bit of kit that looks like it'll last many years. Can't remember make off hand, but I could find out if you're interested.

Bridgemarsh was my first ever marina and I remember sitting on the shallows at the entrance many times having got the tides wrong. Great place !!
