Hello!

To all owner of a princess v48 ips600.

How fast or slow is the boat at cruising speed and top speed really with normal load of fuel and persons.

I had a sea trial in Mallorca with a v48 open 2015. The sea was a little chopy and the speed with full throttle was 22 Knots. Fuel tank full 80%. 4 Person on boat. The bottom was clean and antifouling from spring.

Is this normal?

Kind regards
Richard

You can lose a few knots in as many weeks to propeller fouling, and most of us haven't found a reliable way to stop it. I'd ask the seller to have them cleaned (usually by a diver), and try again.

On shafts I have found Propspeed incredibly efficient. The trick is to do it exactly as stated on the instruction, of which the most important detail would be 24 hours before launch.

Does it stay on at high rpm? I've seen it bleed off with speed and then getting the props clean again is a pain.
I've got an Aquacote set for my props which I may try next year

Being saying this for a while -bit nobody ,s listening
You gotta look past the static display @ boat shows and delv into the numbers
Vp Ips 600 has "only" 1016 Nm of Torgue @2000 rpm --to spin not one bit TWO props -with 1/2 mm of fouling --yeh right in a48 ftr . --from 5.5L block .= total loss of top end speed
As the Americans say "there ain,t no substitute for cubes "
My boat -same size -may be even more heavy -has 2500Nm from 1200 rpm from 13 L --lumps
I lose approx 1-2 knots from so called fouling -the torque is enough to spin -em up,and clean em -
Brass -bronze shows at the hub and the even the rudders clean up after a good blast @1800 /29 knots .
If I scape the stern gear ( prop tips ) I gain a 2 knots or so .

Used with Cats 355hp which do 36 knots max and rev at 2800 rpm (Pershing 37), and Man 800hp (Cayman 58 WA HT) which does 34 knots and rev 2300 rpm and both where all good after nine months in the water.

Portofino is spot on the problem of these and similar IPS boats ie. Torque

Sunseeker 48 Portofino or San Remo touch 30 knots max.
Princess V48 is estimated 32-34 knots max but I have never seen real test figures above 31 knots.
Fairline has a declared 32 knots max, which if I remember well did more in initial sea trials toping 33 or 34 knots.
Fairline has advanrage of having engines mounted centrally, and now is also available with new D8 550hp.

Trim one or two knots in Summer and in the Med of the above top speeds.

While I have no experience with the princess , I do have a boat with IPS 600. It has similar weight (30,000 pounds), smaller (44 feet) and slightly narrower (13 feet) than the V48. I have more than 600 hours on it. WOT is 34 knots and cruise is 27 knots

I also have no experience wth a Princess, but have a boat with IPS 600, and weighing in at in excess of 18 tons, but 43ft.
I can comfortably cruise at 30knts doing 3000 revs, which I did for 4 hours continuously, with a top speed achieved of 35 knots at the time. The boat was antifouled in May, used early June , but then not used again at all until September. I had a diver check everything out before I went off again in September, and all was good. The boat is lying in the Med on Costa Blanca, where hull growth is known to be prevalent.

I've had a bad experience with Propspeed in Majorca a few years ago supposedly applied by an approved supplier at not inconsiderable cost. The coating started to peel off after just a few weeks and then the fouling started in the usual way. I'd have to be really convinced to spend the money again

If the boat was anywhere near Palma I would agree with that. I used to lose 5-6kts in as many weeks at the height of summer when I was moored in Club de Mar and I used to employ a diver to clean the props 3 or 4 times a season. Hull antifouling was never a problem but sterngear fouling certainly was

Anyone who can find a cost effective and reliable cure for sterngear fouling in the W Med would make a fortune

Yes, it was Club Nautic Santa Ponsa.
What type is your boat?

We are no longer in Majorca but at the time we had a Ferretti 46 which is a shaftdrive flybridge boat capable of about 27kts so quite different to the V48 IPS although the same issue applies. If this V48 has been in the water since Spring and has not had its props and IPS legs cleaned since then, my guess would be that it could easily lose 10kts or so. And you won't see this fouling on the hull; if a good antifoul paint has been applied, the hull will look very clean still.

Having said this, I'm guessing this is a boat you are considering buying? I don't understand why the seller didn't know this and employ a diver to clean the props before the seatrial. What are the circumstances of this boat? The key question in all this is did you make a note of the engine RPM when the boat achieved its top speed of 22kts? If the engine RPM is well below the manufacturers maximum rpm at the max speed of 22kts, then it is very likely a fouling issue but if the engines were at their max rpm and the boat was still only achieving 22kts then there is another problem, either engine or prop size related
