How fast can I go?

My boat CI Vee Express engines 2 x 151 volvo penta straight fours fully laden with all my worldly goods does 18 knots on a good day. Is this OK or should I be able to go faster.

What RPM do you get at max speed?

Depends on your total displacement, when you say "all my worldly goods".
1. Are you reaching max revs under load, 5,500rpm?
2. What condition are the engines in?
3. What condition are the props in?
4. When were they last serviced?

Bought her last year and to begin with she was doing 22 knots then we had to replace the cylinder head and manifold on one engine and its never run properly since. Maximum 16 17 knots (hardly planing at all).
About to replace the leads, filters plugs and points in the hope that this helps. It hasn't gone unnoticed that a good Volvo mechanic to tune them properly wouldn't go amiss but as yet we haven't found one in this area. (Strathclyde) Any recommendations? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

A fletcher I once had (26ft with 2 165hp Merc) used to be good for 41knots and my worldly goods were pretty HUGE back then for a 26 footer.
