I know lots of peeps on this board travel quite a distance to play on their boats - who here has to travel the furthest, either within the UK or globally? How many miles per year do you clock up a year getting to your boat? Does your family think you are mad? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It must be a bit of a pain if something needs checking on your boat and you're 200 miles away thinking you've left the door unlocked or the gas on! I now live on the Isle of Wight, so if any forumites have a boat down here, live a long way away and need something checking urgently I'd be happy to help (and I might learn a few things before i get my own boat! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif )as long as it doesn't involve swimming out to the middle of Bembridge harbour in a force 9. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

PM if I can help and I'll send you my mobile number.

I wont win but I will start us off. 65miles from front door to marina car park 1hr driving unless theres traffic jams / road works on M6 then its anybodys guess. Particularly bad sunday evening 6pm ish, which is why we generally stay for Monday or set off 7am monday morning in to oiffice 8-30am ish.
Incidentally lots of us have each others mobile numbers at our marina and allways check on each others boats and report back that all is good (hopefully) regardless of if we have been asked.
PS - jim44 yes I did and yes it is /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

i know that jfm is further from his boat than i am, partly cos he is 50 yards down the other end of the pontton (also cos he lives n of london) . Dunno how far by plane to Nice, probly 600 miles?

There is a chap on our pontton who lives in australia and keep his boat in antibes. So, i reckon can't get much further, really. Probaly got another boat in oz, though, the cheat.

We have the same sort of frienship 'ring', (if that is the expression to use) comprising of a total mixture of Raggies and Stinkies, down here at Falmouth Marina in Cornwall, so if any body out there with a boat at Falmouth or Mylor Marina's wants a check-up, just PM me.

92 miles and I get the pleasure of North Circular,M25 roadworks around Heathrow, but at least I ve found a way around Hindhead (A3)(only another 8 years before they build the bypass/tunnel). Of course I also manage to fit in M4 and M3, so if I m unlucky and dont get held up on one, i can always trust the other.
Unfortunately, the A1 doesnt run parallel to the M1 for a few miles further north, so it would be a bit of a detour to do a little stint there too.

About 250 mls - 3.5 to 4 hrs - Loughborough to Kingsbridge. Only do it about 8 times a year but stay a long time when I'm there. This is only possible because I've got rid of work and kids and wife (nearly). Haven't told her yet though /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

80miles from Chippenham to boat at Island Harbour (on the Isle of Wight), normally takes me around 3hours, except for this last Friday, when the temp roadworks between Salisbury and b4 the M271 contributed to me having to take a detour and miss the 7pm ferry leading to a 1hr40min wait till the next one!
Have to get together for a beer Britemp sometime
