How do you rate your Harbour Master/Marina Manager ?

Last marina I was in (not the current one): pi$$ poor management and customer care at both local and group level. Can't say more at this time (cough!).

Example; point blank refusal by the marina manager of my request to implement call-up radio procedures saying "too difficult". FFS every boat has to lock-in/out; just give out a notice paper to any resident boat leaving the marina.

super-efficient, like greased lightning for collecting fees; when it comes around to maintaining withies and harbour marks, that's a bit too much like hard work...

Inverness marina David Findlay 1st rate man, nothing to much trouble for him and his staff!

I am at Eastbourne and I am very dissatisfied with their manager. It is more about "customers? I do not care!". The manager there changed boat yard rules making it more difficult to carry out maintenance, locks are now every hour instead of every 30 minutes, and too often one is closed for maintenance or is broken, fuel is no longer 24/7 but on daytime only so we can no longer refuel if we depart/arrive early or late, we rather must have a round trip to the fuel pontoon and return to berth, dredging no longer takes place in March but later and there is an issue with shoaling outside the access channel that the manager failed to solve making it a tidal marina when it was previously accessible with all states of tide. They send you texts that they will check on your boat during gales, but when I was there and I asked for help to secure my neighbour's boat during a gale I was told that they were not authorized to walk on the pontoons during a gale because of health and safety rules. Any more? Oh yes, despite all this, 3% price increase every year.

Yup, that sounds like Premier which is why I left Premier Gosport.
Went to Haslar who have a completely different view of customer relations from Richard Reddyhoff down. Always helpful and the right things get done, top marks.
I believe they are close to being sold, due diligence is being done. Will be interesting to see if corporate behaviour goes the way C&N Gossie went when Premier bought them. Hope not.

Neither a marina or a harbour, but I think Scott Waddington at Wicor Marine Yacht Haven runs a pretty tight ship, for want of a better expression.

Shore side he's building up the business (the newish cafe serves great bacon and egg sandwiches) and on the water he and his team are very attentive - in the past he's moved my boat from the windward side of a pontoon to a swinging mooring ahead of a storm so she could face the weather, dropped me a line about my fenders needing upgrading and only today followed up an ad hoc discussion about car parking with a long email this afternoon.

My only connection is as a satisfied customer.

Been there twice - second time for a month when I lost my rudder
Can i say that the whole operation was so much easier due to the help & friendliness of the marina staff & Cally's manager
In fact the whole operation was first class. If you ever go in there tell them i said so

All the staff at Universal (on the Hamble) are friendly and helpful. Just one example - when I had a problem with my back a while ago one of the guys very willingly lifted our Avon dinghy in and out of the cockpit locker whenever I wanted so that I could teach two of our grandchildren to row.

Bradwell - great crowd & not excessive prices all things considered
But there again most marinas are fairly good to visitors
for example - Dover, glenarm, Arglass, Croabh Eyemouth Shotley stand out

The worse are the french although that changes from year to year. I had a really bad experience one year when due to bad weather i needed a berth & the harbour master said there were none. I went in & looked anyway & there were 6 empty at the front. he just shrugged & said he had not noticed.
Dieppe used to be good but management have changed so is now pants. Cherbourg is OK if you can get over the totally disorganised French method of doing anything
St Peter Port is good again now they have sorted the staff problems that happened one year
I think a lot has to do with the way you approach them & whether you gel with them straight off

The best in Europe used to be Ostend but now Robert has retired !!! new bloke ( Simon I think) is good for a laugh & a beer so i hope he stays.
i will see this year as I am going for the Paulufestein

Thumbs up for Tarbert (Loch Fyne), Portavadie and Ardfern.
Tarbert is the cheapest on the West Coast but can be a tad noisy due to being a working port but is very sheltered and has all he village amenities within1/4 mile.

Shotley Marina - great service, always friendly and happy to help both in the tower and the yard. Miriam seems to know us all by name or by boat and Martin always happy to offer advice on maintenance.
Thanks!
Sounds like an ad but it's just my personal experience.
