How do people keep pencils and dividers from rolling around. Mine have a mind of their own. Are there any special holders, or can I fashion something out of a bit of something else?

I keep my pencils and dividers etc under the lid of the chart table, too much junk on the top

Mine came with a bar on the bulkhead with a row of holes for such things. In general I prefer to have everything spread out horizontally, but I do like to be able to find a pencil for my crossword.

Go hard on the wind, both tacks. All is deposited on the cabin sole and remains there until required.

Alternatively build a small tray to hold required gubbins. Split up with domestic pipe insulation which has useful holes for pencils etc.

Despite owning a mobo and therefore navigating by following ferries I think I have quite a practical arrangement for this:

Definately no round pencils onboard. Holder on bulkhead by chart table for pencils / divider / rubber and sharpener.

Plotter lives in quarter berth next to chart table with almanac and log.

This season quarterberth will even have a special waterproof cover for top section of cushion in case navigator should drip on new upholstery.

PS Any one seen East Coast Bernie recently??

Simple.

I had a small boat with a fold up table, and I made a small canvas roll about 8" x 6" with small sleeve pockets to hold the kit, with two small eyelets in the top corners to hang it on two small hooks. This pouch can be rolled up and ties with a captive string to take home. This system works as well with a permanent table.

Also use self propelling pencils with captive erasers - no sharpening or rubbers to lose, and you get a consistent line on the chart. And they clip into your shirt pocket.

Old toilet roll, sticky back plastic, double sided tape....!!!!!!
Or just sail the ionian - line of sight nav (out there and hang a left and it's down there somewhere) - nope, sorry, no sensible suggestions!!
