I'm having a bimini made and I need to get it out to my boat in Spain. I thought I would ask the airlines if I can book it on a plane, but has anyone got any other ideas? I don't want to drive out there if I can help it. It should flat pack fairly well but will still be over six feet long bundle of s.s.tubes!

Has anyone else transported something like this, and if so how? people transport things like surf boards etc, don't they?

You could send it by DHL or TNT but it would probably be cheaper to carry it as oversize luggage on your next flight out. After all it sounds like it's not a lot different from a bag of golf clubs

Hi Barry,

Off subject - We had some very high winds here a couple of nights ago, local boats in all sorts of trouble as they manouvered in the marina! Checked your boat out during and after the storm - all OK.

If you need a close look at your boat just contact Neil and he will zoom the camera in, demonstrated to me Tuesday, most impressive!

Best regards

John

bimini to Spain

'Outsize luggage' on the plane with some packaging.

Cant see why not - all sorts of gear, bikes golf clubs skis helm seats etc, goes that way.

Phone first with sizes ??

PS Hi Carlton !

I've taken all sorts of boating stuff as oversize luggage, it seems the airlines are less fussy about what you take now, because they charge you a lot more for it, so they get their pound of flesh. It's still loads cheaper than a courier though.

Try a post on the Sant Carles forum. Quite a few drive down, you might be able to hitch a lift for the Bimini!

Yep good point, your average check in assistant can't handle ambiguity, so if it's not on their computer they're more likely to say no. I've always just said sporting goods, and that seems to work.

It sounds no worse than a ski bag. I've taken a rolled up carpet of similar length to SoF by plane with no problems.

On the other hand, after being told by Sunseeker that it needed a truck, I took the front half of the railings for a Camargue 47 on the roof of an Escort estate without problems.

Break it down into smaller packages, Barry.
If you can get each one down to less than 30 kgs, Parcel Farce can to it.
(Use a Parcel Force agent to keep the prices down - I used www.parcel2ship.co.uk)
Ive used them twice in the last couple of months to transport kit to Sant Carles.
The marina staff are god at delivering once it gets there as well.
I had mine all delivered to my Paniola (lockup).

Hi Barry,

Not on Skype at mo, needed to disable it due to conflict with iPhone. PM me a copy via this forum.

With regard to Chris, just stick a chip up each nostril and a slug under your nose, she will think you have gone quite mad and insist you need some R&R on your boat!

Hot and sunny out here this week, gentle breeze just to keep you cool. They have also sprayed nearer the marina so not a mozzie in sight!

Just off to the bar......
