I have RL80 below and RL70 in the cockpit. The RL70 is the repeater. Chart cards go into the RL80. Recently the RL70 has either not been displaying the charts or freezing when I try to zoom or pan. Then it spontaneously shuts down and restarts.

I thought about putting the chart cards into the RL70 but there is no card reader.

If I take the card reader out of the RL80, can I connect it to the RL70? Will I regret this? Do I have to do anything else to make the RL70 the main and the RL80 the slave?

Curiously the RL70 displays radar perfectly

ANy thoughts?

Can't really suggest what is the cause of your problem, but out two devices stopped "speaking" to each other across the high speed network link. The engineer tried various things, costing money, but didn't fix it.
I bought another cheap black and white unit on ebay and this showed the fault seemed to be in the cockpit colour plotter - but still no specific to cure.

In the end we took the card reader out of the ebay device and installed this in the nav station unit. Then cheap ebay cards and both running, but off separate cards. In fact gives a bit more redundancy

So I transferred the card reader out of the RL80n and fitted it to the RL70. This has reversed the problem. So there must be a problem with communication along the HSB cable. Guess the next step is to connect via a new cable

Thanks
