Solent - berthed Portsmouth Harbour
Micron - seems to have done a reasonable job this year, some slime, but no weed not as good as last year, but it was hotter so should expect more growth
White Micron Extra - No weed, no barnacles, but plenty of slime, most of which would remove itself during a good thrash ! Leaving the bottom looking patchy !
Boat gets a lot of use, so no doubt this helps!
Now if only I could keep those little shrimpy things from clogging the log !....
- River Frome (Poole)
- I don’t use antifoul
- The boat is in all year. This year I didn’t beech and scrub early season, I did it in September. Apart from the normal build up of slime, I had quite a lot of barnacle growth. It was suggested that this was due to higher temperatures this year.
Chi harbour: Blakes Tiger worked well last year - total disaster this, with heavy weed and barnacle growth. Perhaps I should have used new rather than buying an extra large tin last year? Does this stuff go off?

Based - Isles of Scilly
Used - Blakes tiger cruising, have done for many a year
Growth- I don't think the recipe is the same anymore weed and slime growth was apparent after three months, normally get through the whole season with no growth at all. Also used on our little runaround motor cat which I have kept in for the winter and this has had to be scrubbed a couple of times something I have never had to bother with before.
I wonder if there is scope for trading standards to look into the labelling of the product because it no longer does what it says on the tin!!
Blakes Titan last year was great, yard used Blakes Tiger this year, absolute disaster. I have been fighting a losing battle with slime, and now weed, all season.
Certainly manure for weed and wmd for log impeller, even when removed between each trip.
Need to whip the boat round to Haslar for a drive through scrub, or employ PH Offshore & Diving Inc. for a bit of botty art.
South coast and Channel spring and autumn, southern Ireland during summer.
Used XM Cruising (two coats)
A little slime but easily came off with pressure washer. Few barnacles in the nooks and crannies.
Cromarty Firth
Blakes cruising -- 2 coats and worked really well. Isha is on a swinging mooring for 6 months apart when away cruising. In an area bad for weed and slime and everything nasty in the water she only had a very slight covering of slime which washed off easily when craned out for the winter. Any comments on Screwfix anti foul?
Based in Shoreham. Used Trago Mills super cheap Seajet (with father-in-law's OAP discount) on top of previous year's Plastimo. Mid August scrub had small amount of slime around waterline (boat went in mid March), otherwise excellent. Can report in mid December when she comes out, but thankfully there's been plenty of wind the last couple of months, so we've been going very well.
Certainly, compared to other boats we've seen scrubbing, ours has been the best this year.
First a good coat of Micron Extra (left over from last year)
Then a coat of Micron Optima on top.
Launched end March and it stayed weed and slime free 'till late August / September when sliming around the waterline kicked in. In the past I've used Micron Extra and had plenty of sliming but no weed/barnacles. I guess this year the sliming started when the Optima eroded away.
Not yet pulled out, but I used Seajet Shogun on the cradle pad spots and will be interested to see how these have fared.
Any Shogun experience anyone? Am considering using it next year
Based in West Solent Marina, used Micron with 2 thin coats, some slime on hull, keel almost clean, no growth. Plenty of use with some good thrashes through choppy seas tend to help keep things cleaner in my experience.
Two coats of Blake Tiger Extra (if I remember rightly)
Went round the boat the other day in the dinghy and used a stiff brush to knock the beard off the water line - the rest wast just slime. So a resonable success to my mind. The prop on the other hand is another subject - I'll not raise that one here though.
Crystal Clear Waters of Loch Melfort
Blakes Cruising
Not a barnacle - some of this years coat has washed off around the prop area as usual
Boot top - International MPX or whatever its called - minor stringy weed growth on the beam - more on the port side than starboard - I think we tend to be wind rode for much of the time - which is understandable as the Glen is quite narrow and the wind funnels into it and bends so that would have us pointing westish which would probably explain this.
